Amateurs Strategy for Double-Hand Poker
April 7th, 2026 by Aubree

Double-hand Poker is a modern game with ancient origins. Built on the old Chinese domino game and the modern American variation of poker, Pai Gow poker combines the eastern with the wild west in a wonderful game for early level gamblers.

Pai Gow is a poker game that puts the gambler against the casino, unlike almost all other poker games that players wager with other gamblers. By betting against the dealer, beginning players do not have to fret about other, more advanced people taking their mulla.

One more Pai Gow edge is the relatively slow game play, rookies are able to take their time and strategize without needing to make frenzied choices.

It is also easier to enjoy for an extended time with just a tiny bit of money after all, to not win, both of your hands must be under both of the dealer’s hands.

Pai Gow uses 53 cards; the familiar 52-card basic deck and one joker. The player is given seven cards faces showing and the croupier is dealt 7 cards face down.

One 5 card hand and one 2 card hand have to be put together from the seven cards, the five card hand must be better than the two card hand. To succeed, a player needs both of his hand values to be better than the houses.
