Ah, the steam. If a poker enthusiast claims never to have looked down the shadow of an approaching poker steam – they are either telling a lie or they have not been gambling very long. This does not mean of course that everyone has been on steam before, a number of people have wonderful control and take their squanderings as a hit and leave it at that. After all we are assumingly (nearly all of us) playing poker for a single purpose – to acquire money, it would make sense that we would wager appropriately to maximize winnings. Now let’s say you are up $100 off of a $100 deposit, and you take a gigantic blow in a No Limits game and your stack is at one hundred and twenty dollars. You have squandered eighty dollars in a hand where you were assured to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and held a 10 – 1 edge. And that amateur! He bled you dry on the river? – Well hold it right there. This is a quintessential choice for a fresh gambler to start tilting.
