Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
