Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
