No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
November 14th, 2019 by Aubree

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
