Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
