April 6th, 2017 by Aubree
[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
