NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
