Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
