The History of Poker Chips
November 27th, 2009 by Aubree

Gaming chips have been made from a huge range of materials in an almost infinite variety of styles since the advent of gambling and the requirement to keep track of winnings. The most familiar components used today in the creation of cutting-edge poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 19th century.

Back in the 19th century, poker players appear to be using any tiny item with value you can imagine. Early poker players occasionally employed jagged gold pieces as well as chips – mainly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs began to employ a bigger prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips were given up to chips with slits to hold them neatly arranged with each other.

There is no debate that poker has expanded constantly in appeal since its beginnings in the 19th century. With the explosive advancement of internet gaming and unique television shows, community interest in poker has accelerated faster than ever before. Many people are first introduced to poker by television showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or "Poker After Dark," and many will compete in their 1st hands on the net. Despite online poker’s growth, nothing competes with the feeling of mixing heavy clay poker chips in your hands, tossing chips into the middle of a poker table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
